Shimanuki is a historic Japanese craft brand, established in 1892 in Sendai, in the culturally rich Michinoku region of northern Japan. For over a century, the company has been dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Tohoku craftsmanship, with a particular focus on handmade kokeshi dolls.

Kokeshi dolls began as simple wooden toys for children in northern Japan but have evolved into collectible folk art known for their minimal form and delicate hand-painted designs. Today, they are recognized as iconic symbols of Japanese culture and craftsmanship, appreciated both in Japan and internationally.

Alongside kokeshi, Shimanuki also produces lacquerware accessories, mirrors, card holders, and decorative cases featuring traditional motifs such as cherry blossoms, samurai, and the Sendai crescent moon. Each handmade piece reflects the skill of traditional artisans and the rich design heritage of the Tohoku region.
